Architecture

This project set out to modify an existing building experiencing severe water penetration problems. The resulting ‘rain shield’ not only meets the required functional program, but also creates a visually dramatic figured glass screen that appears to hover over the existing building, enhancing the spatial containment of the Chancellery courtyard and in responding to changing daylight and night time lighting conditions, animates the façade and the open space of the court.

“The project is notable for the symbiosis of the steel structure, which appears as a ghost image through the figured glass plane, and the glass which is treated as a canvas onto which an image is etched, attenuating reflectivity and heat accumulation in the courtyard and on the façade.”
